There is an issue of getting a varied diet, which becomes difficult if you leave out important “building blocks” by omitting fat, carbs .. or protein.

If your parents are in charge of of your meals, becoming a vegetarian is not really fair on them, because it takes a lot of thought and extra work, both shopping but also in preparing dubble meals.

People eat meat to get protein, and the main reason for poor health in vegetarians, is those, who are not getting enough protein.

Beans, lentils and such have protein – especially soy beans provide an excellent source of protein. However, those foods do not really taste very good on their own. So you not only have to make sure you get enough of them in your diet – you also have to learn to like them, or learn how to cook them, so they taste good.

I used to be a vegetarian, and even if I was very conscious about getting my proteins, I still got sick. I started gaining weight, really fast, and no matter what I did!!

Over about a year my eyesight got worse, my consentration got really, really bad and I got extremely tired from hardly any effort.

I kept thinking I was doing the right thing by eating vegetarian, because I thought it was healthy. Luckily my mum forced me to go see a doctor, and my condition was discovered. I have a cronic metabolic disorder, which I have to fight for the rest of my life.

So before altering your diet, make sure you know what you’re doing, research thoroughly and consult a doctor before, during and especially if you detect anything out of the ordinary!!

Hey, you do know that there are many different types of vegetarians right? Try searching up on them, and choose the one that suits you.

Animal products are the only source of cholesterol. A big health benefit is that since they don’t have all that rotting meat in their stomachs and cholesterol and saturated fat, vegetarians have an extremely low chance of getting diabetes and heart disease.

Also, when I went vegetarian (now vegan) my skin started feeling better, and I started sleeping deeper. I don’t know if this will happen to you too though.

Disadvantages? Well, if you practically live off french fries, you’re not going to be a very healthy vegetarian. You need to have a well planned diet, and do a lot of research to find out how much calcium/protein/vitamins your body needs every day, and work hard to meet it. You need to eat a variety of foods to make sure you’re getting all of your nutrients. If you don’t plan out your diet, you may start to get weaker, and lose weight, and muscle mass. Trust me, you don’t want to do this. Bad, bad, bad.

When I think of more advantages or disadvantages, I’ll come edit.

There, these should help. Also I’ve been a vegetarian for eight years and I swear I get sick less often and with less severity when I do get sick.
