Query from Cocopuff80: What is the difference between a lifestyle model and a fashion model?
its my dream to become a model. I was wondering what is the difference between a lifestyle model and a fashion model. What jobs do they do? Which one earns more money and becomes more famous? And any extra information about fashion modeling and lifestyle modeling would be great! Also measurements would help too! PS I am 13 years old, 25inch waist and 5’4 and growing! I have really skinny arms and legs.
Thanks!

A life style model is more catalog and fashion does campaign work and fashion shows. Lifestyle is for models that don’t have the run way look but are still pretty.example, people that aren’t 100 pounds and 6’1 like most runway models but are still beautiful to lifestyle work. Only fashion models really have a chance at fame but in all honestly most models aren’t famous

A lifestyle model is someone who models everyday clothes, outfits people would actually wear to work or just to be out and about, this can be geared toward middle class or upper class woman. mainly just clothes you see people wearing or hanging up in the rack at a store like Macy’s or something like that. it would probably be easier to break into this business since there is a bigger market for it. A fashion model is someone who models big brand clothing, which more often than not are not wearable for everyday use, high fashion design that are not meant to be worn about. just pretty scraps of cloth thrown together for someone to spend thousands of dollars on just to wear it once. Lifestyle model do walk on the runway but fashion models are the more thought about when thinking of a runway model.
Fame is kind of a fluid thing and the general public really doesn’t recognize most models. Heidi Klum, Giselle, those are just exception. most people don’t care as long as the model is pretty i’m sad to say, but within the business that’s not to say you won’t be famous and the more people that know your name then the more jobs, and this applys to both being a lifestyle and fashion model. if you live near a city i would recommend looking up modeling agencies. My brother was 14 when he signed a contract with one and got a few jobs being a lifestyle model in a commercial for a water-park and various catalog positions.

Both of the previous answers are wrong. A lifestyle model is one that works on jobs for companies like Crocs, Pepsi, Eggos, Honda and so on. You are generally called a commercial model and lifestyle is a part of commercial modeling. I’ve been a lifestyle photographer for a long time and know what I am talking about. Lifestyle has absolutely nothing to do with catalogs or fashion.
Here’s an example of a lifestyle shot for you.

I’m 13 and I just got a modeling agent! Cool! Anyway, a lifestyle model shows products for companies like coke. Normally that is not modeling clothes or sitting on the beach of a hotel, in that case that photo would be used to advertise that hotel. They are sometimes referred to as commerical models. Fashion modeling is editorials for high-end brands. But, I’m sorry to say you the average height most agencies take for high fashion is 5′ 10”. You might not make it to that, but if you can reach 5′ 7”- 5′ 8”, you might be able to do commercial/lifestyle modeling. Not a lot of models become famous, but you’d have a better chance with high fashion. Also, you have to be REALLY skinny to do modeling (at my agency plus sized starts at size 8!). The average measurements for a lifestyle model are 5′ 7”, 25 inch waist, 35 inch bust, 35 inch hips, 100-120 lbs. For runway/fashion 5′ 10”, 100-120 lbs, 33 inch bust, 23 inch waist, 34 inch hips. Don’t try anything dangerous to get these measurements! I say if you grow you could do juniors lifestyle modeling. Also, you will need to find an agent. Don’t fall for scams you hear on the radio or see ads for in magazines. Google “Talent agencies in (fill in your state/area)” See if you can submit there or set up a meeting with their new talent director. If you want to see an example of models and their measurements go to therockagency.com and look under models. Thats the agency I’m with and there’s some pretty good examples of the requirements there. Good luck and don’t get discouraged if the first agency you submit to rejects you!
Figure out good?
